
Tonusree Basu
Director, Policy and International Programs
Tonusree Basu is the Director, Policy and International Programs at Access Now, leading the organization’s expansive policy work and managing its regional teams, who are on the frontlines of spearheading digital rights reforms across the world. As Chair of the joint leadership team of the organization’s Advocacy Arm, Tonu anchors the policy, legal, campaigns, and communications strategy that advances the organization’s mission. Tonu brings deep expertise in civic engagement and policy reform after having worked with grassroots movements and parliaments, and with several international organizations. Prior to this Tonu established and led the policy function at Open Government Partnership, a multilateral and multistakeholder initiative that promotes open, accountability, and inclusive governance. In this role, she led engagement with partners and governments across policy sectors, including digital rights. Tonu holds an MSc in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, as a Public Service Fellow. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delhi. She is on the Board of a grassroots initiative in India to promote government accountability. She is also a dancer trained in the Indian classical dance forms Bharatnatyam and Odissi, for over 18 years.
