Access Now and human rights organizations denounce the Egyptian authorities’ blocking of at least 600 websites since May 2017 including media, political and human rights platforms.

At least six women have already been sentenced to jail for their TikTok videos, and now they are fighting their charges on appeal. Help pressure Egyptian authorities to free these women and revoke their sentences.

Shutting down the internet to prevent cheating on exams is not efficient or effective. Rather, shutdowns hurt human rights, disrupt public affairs, and cause huge financial losses that compound the longer the shutdown lasts.

A coalition of organizations including Mawjoudin, Damj, and Access Now are asking Instagram and others to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community in the face of hatred and violence on the platform.
