“When we went to Congress we found raw power to legislate. And beyond that, some bills that were truly special,” said Nathan White, Senior Legislative Manager at Access Now.
Today, with approximately 30 days left in the legislative calendar (and one day after the release of a new Star Wars trailer), Access Now is releasing our fall term legislative cheat sheet. Some of these issues have always been there (like the SS7 vulnerability), and many members of Congress are awake to the threats, but they need help.

“With regard to reforming Section 702, we’ve seen this raw strength before in other surveillance authorities. It scared us then, and it scares us now. We need urgent reform,” said Amie Stepanovich, U.S. Policy Manager at Access Now. “To those who want a clean reauthorization, I say ‘this is not going to go the way you think.’”
“We hope this cheat sheet will be the spark that will light the fire of legislative action on Capitol Hill,” added Drew Mitnick, Policy Counsel at Access Now. “We call on Congress to fulfill their destiny of the 2017 legislative calendar.”
