The 28th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC28) is taking place right now through March 27 in Geneva. During the session the Council will hear thematic reports, review the human rights records of UN member countries, and draft resolutions to promote human rights.
Access developed a policy brief with our partners at APC highlighting the key digital rights issues on the Council’s agenda, as well as relevant side events and countries under review in the Universal Periodic Review.
Most important, we’re closely watching a resolution to establish a new expert office to protect and promote the right to privacy. Access is one of the 63 organizations calling for the Council to create this new office, in the form of a special rapporteur.
Access and our partners, including APC, hope that the final vote — likely occurring late next week — will enable the Council to focus on our online and offline privacy rights for the long term.
