Call before 11 am to stop mass hacking!

I’ve been emailing you for months now talking about a change to Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. I know it sounds wonky. And it is, but it’s also really important.

Cut to the chase: This morning is our last chance to stop changes to Rule 41 from going into effect. Call you senator right now and ask them to “Stop Rule 41.”

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask for your senator’s office.

Rule 41 controls how law enforcement can get a warrant. Updates to the rules are supposed to be technical. They’re not supposed to impact your rights or change legal authorities.

However, the changes to Rule 41 would implicitly bless government hacking, something Congress has never authorized. That means law enforcement will be unleashed to hack into your devices, and that means greater access to your personal information and the real risk of damage.

Additionally, the rule changes allow judges to authorize hacking on a global scale. That means one warrant could impact millions of innocent people.

The changes will go into effect tomorrow morning. But Senators Ron Wyden and Chris Coons are leading the charge. They’re going to the Senate floor today at 11am EST and trying to stop the changes before it’s too late. They’re going to ask the Senate to at least delay the rule change to allow the Senate to hold hearings.

This is our last chance. Please call your senators and ask them to Stop Rule 41. Call (202) 224-3121.
