Access has joined with our partners to submit a comment in advance of the Human Rights Council 2015 Universal Periodic Review of the United States of America. The Universal Periodic Review is a cooperative process by which the Human Rights Council reviews the human rights records of all 193 UN Member States. The last review of the United States was in 2010. The coalition comment recommended that the U.S. recognize its duties under international law, specifically in the extraterritorial application of its surveillance practices. The coalition called for reform of current surveillance laws, including the establishment of remedial mechanisms.
